What is OT-Heartbeat?
OT-Heartbeat is an active DICOM monitoring tool which is very simple to set up and operate, even with no special training. It allows users to schedule regular network PING commands and DICOM Verification (Echo) commands to multiple destinations. This provides a pro-active monitoring tool to detect whether any of the devices that are being polled would have become inactive or inoperable. If so, an administrator can immediately follow up and try to resolve this issue prior to it becoming a major issue.
A web based user interface can be used to set up the configuration, perform a manual verification, schedule them, and view any logs.
The system runs on Windows XP and Vista. It requires IIS 5.0 as well as SQL Express edition and Net Framework 2.0 (the latter two are included with the set-up).
Configuration is quick and easy, it just requires an AE title, IP address and port number for the responding device. Network and DICOM pings can be sent manually as well as with scheduled intervals, with a configurable time out. Any failure will be sent automatically to an email address. Depending on how the user wants to receive these, these could be configured to be sent to a PDA, cell phone, computer, or any email compatible device.
You will need a network interface card for your PC, typically Ethernet with a RJ-45 connector, for access to your DICOM network.
