This class provides an in-depth discussion of PACS and the related DICOM and HL7 interface standards which are used to exchange information between the different PACS, RIS, EMR, Voice recognition components, and imaging modalities such as CT, MR, CR, DR, cardiology and others. This is a hands-on course as the emphasis is on the practicing component and doing the exercises using software that is part of the course.

Detailed Learning Objectives

Students will get to understand the different PACS components and the role of new PACS architectures, aka PACS 2.0 which includes a VNA (Vendor Neutral Archive) and exchange with external information exchanges. They will use a simulator using a HL7 message sender and validator, a Modality worklist simulator taking in the HL7 messages and converting them into DICOM worklist entries, a modality simulator, PACS archive, viewer and HL7 report generator. The seminar also includes a set of sample transactions and many test images that can be used for testing and troubleshooting.

This is a hands-on class, you should bring your own laptop. The class size is limited to allow for a true interactive environment.
