Special Projects

OTech is involved with several special projects, typically sponsored by standards committees such as the committee for the advancement of DICOM and its members. OTech provides project management and puts together a team of experienced developers that will develop software for demonstration and validation purposes. The result of these demonstrations at for example RSNA and ECR, are always available as public source and are therefore available in the public domain, to be used by anyone who would like to download the software.

DICOM Presentation State

Conference attendees
examining Presentation
State services

The software implements and demonstrates the functionality of the DICOM Presentation State service as well as Presentation Look Up table, therefore providing a consistent image quality in a hardcopy and softcopy environment, independent from the workstation and/or printer manufacturers. The software can generate and simulate presentation states using several test images and also print these so they can be compared with the references.

DICOMscope 3.5
Features:

Reads and displays uncompressed monochrome DICOM images of all modalities and image SOP classes.

Supports calibration of the display device (monitor) according to the DICOM Grayscale Standard Display Function, either in hardware or in software.

Creates, reads, writes and updates Grayscale Softcopy Presentation State objects.

Prints on a remote printer (Basic Grayscale Print SCP) and supports the optional Presentation LUT SOP Class that enables hardcopy display consistency.

Acts as a "virtual printer" (Basic Grayscale Print SCP) and receives print jobs from remote print clients. Print jobs are stored in the local database and can be visualized on-screen.

A second demonstration shows how DICOM can be used to implement secure transmission using the new security standards as well as generating digital signatures. This is implemented using a DICOM structured Report. A structured report editor is part of the implementation.

NEW: The "DICOM Security Demonstration: Secure Transport Connections and Digital Signatures" application (DICOMscope 3.5) which has been presented at RSNA 2000 infoRAD and ECR 2001 is now available for public release.

DICOMscope 3.5
Features (cont.):

Sends and receives DICOM objects via the DICOM Storage Service Class. Both conventional DICOM communication and secure network connections conforming to the DICOM Basic TLS Secure Transport Connection Profile are supported.

Reads, writes and updates Structured Reports (SR) of all three SR SOP Classes defined in NEMA PS.3-2000. Structured Reports can be displayed and edited.

Verifies Digital Signatures contained in DICOM images, presentation states and structured reports. Allows to create one or more Digital Signatures on SR documents.
