Healthcare Imaging (PACS) Track

The Healthcare Imaging and Informatics Symposium has two simultaneous tracks, i.e. a Healthcare Imaging (PACS) and a Healthcare Standards (DICOM/HL7/IHE) track. In case you have acquired basic knowledge through experience or prior training, you can skip the first two days for each track and/or cross over to the other track.
The Healthcare Imaging (PACS) Track begins with a two day PACS Certification training that teaches you the basic skills to become a PACS certified professional (PARCA - CPAS), followed by an advanced one day PACS training and a two day PACS project management course.
Your Instructor
Your instructor is Herman Oosterwijk (http://www.linkedin.com/in/hermanoosterwijk) who is a well know teacher, author and consultant for health care imaging and IT and taught thousands of students on this subject over the past 20 years in many regions including the USA, Latin America Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Day 1: PACS (PARCA CPAS) Certification, Clinical
- Basic Anatomy, Landmarks, & Planes
- Body Systems, Studies, & Terminology
- Characteristics of Current Imaging Modalities including Fluoroscopy, Digital Radiography, C.T. & Spiral C.T., MRI, Sonography, Mammography, Interventional Radiography, and Nuclear Medicine
- Test to simulate the clinical portion of the CPAS certification exam
Day 2: PACS (PARCA CPAS) Certification, IT
- Operating Systems
- Common OS and characteristics
- Learn basic UNIX prompts and commands
- Database Basics
- Database structure and purpose
- Identify types and characteristics
- Learn basic SQL commands to perform basic queries
- Data Representations
- Binary and numeric data, including conversions
- Bits and Bytes and Hexadecimal numbers and conversions
- Signed and unsigned, and floating point
- Networking Technology
- Ethernet, TCP/IP
- Basic Security Concepts
- Test to simulate the IT portion of the CPAS certification
Day 3: Advanced PACS architecture and IHE
- New PACS developments: PACS 1.0 vs PACS 2.0
- Vendor Neutral Archiving
- Issues and concerns with VNA's
- How does PACS fit into the Health Information Exchanges (HIE)
- DICOM refresher (data formats and protocols)
- HL7 refresher (messages and formats)
- New standards developments in DICOM and HL7 (DICOMweb, CDA, FHIR)
- IHE radiology important profiles
- IHE ITI profiles and how does it fit with HIE?s
Day 4: Healthcare IT (PACS) project management, introduction
- Intro to Project Management
- Environment for Project Management
- PM Skills and Communications
- Project Lifecycle, Project Definition Phase, Needs Assessment, Project Initiation Phase
- PACS Requirements, Project Planning Phase
- Scheduling & Estimating and Project Risk Management
- Templates for business case, change management, and governance

Day 5: Healthcare IT (PACS) project management, advanced
- Project Execution Phase
- Project Procurement, Project Training
- Project Control Phase and Project Closure Phase
- Templates for implementation planning and review, progress reports and scope
