Product code: SP-138

This 3-day seminar teaches both the clinical and IT skills needed to support medical imaging and IT systems such as PACS, EHR and other image intensive systems. The curriculum follows the updated requirements of the Certified PACS Associate (CPAS2014) (see pacsadmin.org for details).

This is an intensive seminar with a hands-on component (laptop computers are provided) with limited enrollment.

The clinical component includes several samples of actual clinical images to demonstrate the clinical aspects as well as the characteristics of digital modalities such as CT, MR, US, NM, etc. It also covers clinical terminology and anatomy in the context of medical imaging. You will acquire skills that allow you to converse with medical staff, understand their "language" and information that is typically required to support these clinical systems.

The IT component of this course covers the hardware and software components of healthcare imaging and IT systems which allows potential candidates to support and troubleshoot these components.

The seminar contains hands-on exercises for both the clinical ad IT components which includes reviewing different types of medical images using a DICOM viewer, exercises that are IT related such as performing simple SQL queries and UNIX commands.

Detailed Learning Objectives

You will get a basic understanding of IT concepts that are needed to support a medical imaging environment such as used in a PACS or electronic medical record (EMR or EHR) system. You will acquire skills that allow you to perform basic troubleshooting and learn how to use different computer systems, and Operating System environments. The clinical component will teach you the skills to converse with medical/clinical staff and learn about digital modalities and medical terminology.
