OT-DICE Manual

2. Overview

2.1. General

OT-DICE – oTech DICOM Interoperability Checking Entity is a software utility that performs Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) messaging services C-STORE and C-ECHO. It acts both as a service class user and provider for C-STORE and C-ECHO services.

OT-DICE is also a tool for testing DICOM conformance. It displays the DICOM message transferred between peer Application Entities.

The intention of DICOM is to define the communication capabilities of each product type to a degree that allows products supplied by different vendors to be connected together to form an open, integrated diagnostic / treatment capability.

The DICOM Standard facilitates interoperability of medical imaging equipment by specifying:

  • A set of protocols to be followed by devices claiming conformance to the Standard.

  • The syntax and semantics of commands and associated information, which can be exchanged using these  protocols.

  • Information that must be supplied with an implementation for which conformance to the Standard is claimed.

It is assumed that the user has a basic understanding of the DICOM standard. For further information, please refer to the ACR/NEMA Standards Publications, No PS3, 2000 DICOM Standards documents.
